Meet Glenthorne Partnership Member Marie Soliman

Each edition we’ll introduce you to one of the 13 members of the Glenthorne Partnership who are helping to shape this new national park.

The Glenthorne Partnership was created to provide important community insight, ideas and perspectives, and help make decisions to ensure the park meets community needs and expectations.

The group includes community members with connections to surrounding Friends of Parks volunteer groups, the Kaurna community, the City of Marion, the local business association and the local R to 12 school.

Hear from Glenthorne Partnership member Marie Soliman about her connection to the creation of Glenthorne National Park-Ityamaiitpinna Yarta.

I moved to Hallett Cove in 2011 following the birth of my daughter. Not knowing anything about the suburb or its surroundings, I started exploring. I became mesmerised by all this region has to offer –stunning ocean views, parks, ecological wonders – all within a stone’s throw.

My family and I feel very privileged to live in this beautiful part of the world. Being a self-employed mortgage broker, I am lucky enough to also work in this region. I am a passionate advocate of supporting local business and as such, I chair our local business networking group, Hallett Cove Business Association.

It’s a very exciting thing to think of a national park in our back garden. It brings about all those lovely thoughts of what can be – a place to educate our children on ecology and environment; a place where tourists can visit and enjoy spectacular ocean views while learning about unique plants, wildlife and geology; bike paths; hiking trails; recreational facilities – the list goes on.

I believe that over time, Glenthorne National Park will become a major drawcard of southern Adelaide. And opportunities will be created for many.

I would like to ensure that our local community can benefit from these opportunities. From jobs, work tenders, sponsorship and promotion – keeping the community and local business professionals informed is my primary function.’
